It occurs to me that Will Smith, despite being one of the biggest movie stars in the world who can land a hit opening for fucking ANYTHING he's in, even if it's ultra-depressing melodrama, has never made a move I've actually loved. He's made a couple movies that I felt were entertaining enough but loaded with potential that didn't entirely come across in the execution, and he's made at least one movie that I thought was pretty good even though it's not the kind of thing I'd need to revisit much. But usually he winds up with something average, or solid but still somehow disappointing, or worse, something lame or utterly dreadful. Despite being one of the biggest stars around, I don't really care for most of his projects, and I'm just now realizing this. Yet, like Joe Q. Public, I still like him. I still think he's inherently likable and has a fun presence. I guess that says volumes about how he manages to carry all these mediocre movies.
